The LSU College of Art + Design is recognized for educating artists and designers who attain the highest level of professional leadership and personal achievement. Our graduates form a cadre of creative and engaged citizens who provide leadership to their respective professions and communities.

One of the identifying trademarks of the LSU College of Art + Design is the strong academic relationships constructed between the College's faculty and their students. Because studio-based education is at the center of their education, our students are a close-knit and vibrant learning community. This community of engaged students produces highly imaginative and speculative artistic works that are a testament to the pursuit of excellence in the visual arts and design. Our graduates are prepared to act and think creatively because the College's faculty value inquiry over training, embrace the spirit of risk taking, and nurture a capacity to create. These lofty values are successfully attained because students and faculty frequently meet in small groups and search for common ground on which to advance their investigations of contemporary issues. One of the rewards of being Dean of the LSU College of Art + Design is the opportunity to participate in this dynamic community. Through my participation, I have witnessed our students mature intellectually and acquire the capabilities and confidence essential for professional and civic leadership.
