Throughout
the year, the school hosts exhibits of work by undergraduate and graduate
students, faculty, local and visiting artists. From contemporary paintings to
prints, photography to ceramics, graphic design to sculpture, you will see and
experience innovative work that brings a wide range of perspectives and touches
on important social themes.
The Alfred C. Glassell Jr. Exhibition Gallery, located downtown in the Shaw Center for the Arts, is the finest venue for contemporary art in Baton Rouge and allows the School of Art to bring the most provocative and timely artwork to the region. Its architecturally impressive space reminds one of the coolest New York galleries. The LSU Museum of Art is also in the Shaw Center, both spaces exhibit the work of national and international artists. On campus, there are several exhibition spaces that host art events including: Foster Gallery, which features primarily student work and Gallery 229, an exhibition space available for student work and guest photographers. The main campus library includes dedicated gallery space for the printmaking concentration. Hill Memorial Library has an exhibition program that includes historic and contemporary exhibitions of artists' books, photographs and printed ephemera. The Student Union Gallery shows student and faculty work, as well as traveling exhibits. The school’s Sculpture Park, conceived and created as a collaboration between faculty and students, has proudly exhibited the work of regionally and nationally recognized artists.
