The School of Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts degree gives you a liberal arts education and specialized instruction you need for a professional career in the visual arts.
You select the B.F.A. program to your interests by choosing one of seven studio concentration areas. The Bachelor of Arts degree, offered through the College of Arts and Sciences,
is a liberal arts degree that allows you to concentrate in a more general way in studio art or art history. ]
The B.F.A. degree offers concentrations in:
Ceramics
Graphic Design
Art History
Painting and Drawing
Photography
Printmaking
Sculpture
The Ceramics program, has been ranked 5th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, is equipped with over 10,000 square feet of studio space and a 400 square foot gallery space. The program focuses on creating, building and working with all types of ceramic structures and materials.
Graphic design is the largest concentration in the School of Art. The program teaches you traditional and new techniques to develop and execute creative concepts. The program is based on learning fundamental design skills and using technology to produce high-quality print, web or multimedia projects.
The Painting and Drawing program, the second largest concentration, you develop the skills and concepts you need to find your voice through painting or drawing in a wide variety of materials. You study techniques and the work of historical and contemporary artists to develop your own creative perspective.
In Photography, the third largest group in the School of Art, you explore traditional and experimental processes through course work and independent study. Darkrooms and studios are available for work in black and white, color, large format, non-silver, studio lighting and digital photography.
The Printmaking concentration focuses on helping you develop conceptual and critical thinking while you master a wide range of printmaking processes. You work in well equipped facilities, with a workspace of approximately 10,000 square feet, housing lithography, intaglio, book arts and darkroom facilities.
The Sculpture area of concentration promotes cross-disciplinary investigation and collaborative projects, introducing you to the possibilities of sculpture as you learn to develop individual aesthetic direction.
As a B.F.A. student you may also choose a minor, which can include ceramics, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, or visual communications.
