Her work is inspired by ancient motifs and lettering styles taken from the carved letters found on stone grave markers of the British Isles dating from 1500 to 1800 AD. She has lectured on this subject for the Association Typographique International (ATypI), Typevents LLP, Friends of St Bride Printing Library, London, UK, and the Association for Gravestone Studies.
She has received several grants and fellowships for her research including: a Mississippi artist’s fellowship; and a summer stipend research grant. Her professional graphic design work has received recognition from the AIGA the Professional Association for Design, and the American Advertising Federation.
Her work has been exhibited in Alabama, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and in the United Kingdom. Baggett maintains an art and design studio with her husband, William Baggett, who also shares her enthusiasm for typography as an art form.

Courtney Barr is a graphic designer, letterpress artist and educator. In her work she uses visual explanations to reveal new understandings and perspectives. She merges digital printing techniques with letterpress printing to create unique information/art pieces.
Courtney received an MFA in Art from East Carolina University in 2008. Her professional graphic design work has received recognition from AIGA | the Professional Association for Design and the American Advertising Federation. Her work has been published nationally in the Print Regional Design Annual and Graphic Design USA Magazine. She has received research grants such as the LSU Council on Research Summer StipendGrant and a Junior Faculty Travel Grant. In addition, she has collaborated with researchers on grants from the National Science Foundation and the A. P. Sloan Foundation. Her work has been exhibited in North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi.

Gerald Bower has been associated with LSU and the School of Art since 1974. He served as a designer on the University staff then as a faculty member in the School of Art. He is a professor of art and teaches in the graphic design concentration. His work, research and teaching has concentrated mainly in print and publication design.
He is the recipient of a number of grants and awards for his work as an educator in the field of advertising and graphic design. He spent 18 years on the board of the American Advertising Federation of Baton Rouge, and is a past president of the organization. He won the group’s prestigious award Silver Medal Award in 1991 for outstanding service to the organization. In 1997, he received the Pete Goldsby Award, the Baton Rouge advertising industry’s highest award.
His awards as an educator are numerous, including the Dean’s Medal in 1985 for outstanding services to the College of Art and Design, He was sited for his contributions in advertising education at the regional level with the Seventh District of American Advertising Federation. He is the recipient of The Don Hileman “Teacher of the Year” award in 1990, the Otis Dodge Award for his contributions to education in the district in 1996, the Bolton-McVicar for his commitment to advertising education in 2007.

Paul Dean teaches typography, color theory, and graphic design history. Paul studied at the University of North Carolina, graduating in 1980, with a bachelors degree in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. He received an MPD (Master of Product Design) degree from the North Carolina State University’s College of Design in 1986, just as that shcool’s graphic design program was emerging. Richard B. Doubleday is an Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Graphic Design at Louisiana State University’s School of Art. He is a former Senior Lecturer in the Master of Arts in Graphic Design program at Suffolk University and Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Graphic Design at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. He instituted a summer graphic design program and taught a course ‘Graphic Design in London’ at Boston University London Academic Centre for over 8 years. He has lectured on graphic design history and led courses and workshops in the United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico, United States, China, and annually at Nanjing Arts Institute. Doubleday has exhibited at many international events and competitions including the International Poster Triennial in Toyama, Japan, the Lahti International Poster Biennial, Lebanese American University in Beirut, and the Contemporary International Poster Retrospective in Beijing, China.
His awards and honors include a visiting fellowship at Chelsea College of Art & Design, University of the Arts London, four Boston University Grants for Undergraduate Teaching and Scholarship (GUTS), and a Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship. Doubleday’s work has been published in numerous periodicals and publications, including Star Graphic Designers: The Masters of Graphic Design (Loft Publications, Barcelona 2012), 1 & 2 Colors (Harper Collins, New York 2011), The Poster: 1,000 Posters from Toulouse-Lautrec to Sagmeister (Abrams, New York 2010), and The Sourcebook of Contemporary Graphic Design (Harper Collins, New York 2009).
His writings on design history have been published in Baseline, IDEA, A! DISEÑO, Print, NOVUM, Design & Packaging China, IdN, Zhuangshi, and Australian Creative and has written extensively on the typographer, book designer, and writer Jan Tschichold. He is a contributing author for Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design (Phaidon Press, London 2012), Meggs’ History of Graphic Design (John Wiley & Sons, Hoboken 2011), and TypoGraphics: Hideki Nakajima (Seibundo Shinkosha, Tokyo 2008). Richard was a guest juror at the Tokyo Type Directors Club Annual Awards and a contributing writer for the Tokyo TDC Vol. 20: The Best in International Typography & Design (Transart, Tokyo 2009). He is principal of Richard B. Doubleday Design, and elected in 2008 to The Society of Printers.

Born in London, England, and raised in South Wales, Rod studied Typography and Bookbinding at the London College of Printing. A postgraduate position at the University of Texas in Austin led him to design practice in scholarly publishing at UT Press, and magazine and book design with Texas Monthly press. After returning to London, Rod spent four years working in corporate identity design and implementation for companies in the UK and Europe before coming to Louisiana to spend a year working at LSU Press in Baton Rouge. In 1981 he began teaching as an instructor in the School of Art at LSU and in 1984 founded the Baton Rouge based design firm, DSI/LA, that was a regional leader in exploring the use of computers in art and design practice.
After a decade of professional practice in identity and branding design he joined the faculty of the School of Art at LSU in 1995, taking up a position in the graphic design program. In 1998 he collaborated with his colleagues in establishing the Graphic Design Student Office, a student run design unit on campus. He is a member of the founding group of LSU’s AVATAR (Arts, Visualization, Advanced Technologies and Research) Initiative and, as Director of the School of Art since 2008, has helped establish the School’s Digital Art program. He is an Associate Professor of Art and a member of the Graduate Faculty.
