OUR COMMUNITY
The LSU Baton Rouge campus is located 80 miles northwest of New Orleans on Interstate I-10. New Orleans contains many galleries and museums that show contemporary art, including The New Orleans Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Center and the new, state of the art Louisiana Artworks. Combined with the offerings of the local, historic Baton Rouge Gallery and the new Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge and its Louisiana State Art Museum, there are numerous well- funded, prestigious art lecture series such as the Manship and Alfred P. Glassell Lecture Series within the LSU College of Design. In addition, students will find numerous opportunities and inspiration in the rich southern delta culture, its people and cultural events. Houston, Texas is only 4 hours drive and offers an additional wide- ranging, international arts experience.
CASA
The Ceramic Art Student Association exists to support, educate and promote the ceramic arts on campus and within the larger community. In its efforts to uphold its mission, CASA holds a bi-annual ceramics sale on the LSU campus, the proceeds of which fund both student attendance at the yearly NCECA (National Conference for Education in the Ceramic Arts) as well as an on-campus visiting artist program. CASA is student run, and our elected CASA Student Officers gain valuable experience in organizing, managing, planning, executing and understanding all aspects of a busy, popular organization and its dynamic operations.
