SUMMARY:8 Fluid Ounces 2016: Ceramic Cup Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The LSU School of Art Glassell Gallery presents 8 Fluid Ounces 2016: Ceramic Cup Exhibition\, curated by ceramic artist Ayumi Horie\, January 26–March 6\, 2016. A reception will be held Thursday\, February 4\, from 6 to 8 p.m. \n8 Fluid Ounces is one of the most popular and enthusiastically anticipated exhibitions at the LSU School of Art Glassell Gallery. Every other spring\, over 100 completely unique cups arrive and hundreds of visitors come to the gallery to handle\, peruse\, and purchase treasures created by artists from across the U.S. Horie chose 17 artists to participate in the 7th exhibition. Each artist created a set of cups and a vessel. \nParticipating artists include: Adam Greutzmacher\, Beth Lo\, Birdie Boone\, Brett Freundly\, Brian Jones\, Darcy Chenoweth\, Holly Walker\, Kat and Roger\, Klai Brown\, Kyla Twomey\, Lauren Gallaspy\, Matt Kelleher\, Matthew Levi Jorgenson\, Mike Helke\, Sanam Emami\, Shoko Teruyama\, Susan Dewsnap\, and\, of course\, Horie. \nHorie is a full-time studio potter from Portland\, Maine. She makes functional pots\, mainly featuring animals. Horie was the first to be named Ceramic Artist of the Year by Ceramic Monthly. She has taught workshops and given lectures at many universities\, art centers\, and residencies in the U.S. and abroad\, including the Archie Bray Foundation\, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts\, Greenwich House Pottery\, Penland School of Crafts\, Peter’s Valley\, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts\, the Northern Clay Center\, and the International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark. She served on the board of directors at the Archie Bray Foundation for nine years\, where she was a resident for two years between 1996 and 1998. She is currently on the board of the American Craft Council. Her work is in various collections throughout the U.S.\, including the Museum of Art and Design in New York City. She is collaborating on a public art project\, Portland Brick\, in Maine\, and she just started a worldwide version of Pots in Action. \nCups will be for sale\, and all events are free and open to the public.
