SUMMARY:Markéta Flekalová\, "Landscape as a Heritage: The Story of Landscape in the Czech Republic"
DESCRIPTION:Markéta Flekalová\, research and teaching assistant in Mendel University in Brno\, faculty of horticulture\, Department of Landscape Planning\, will present a lecture at the LSU College of Art & Design at 5 p.m. on Monday\, November 9\, 2015\, in the LSU Design Building Auditorium\, room 103. \nIn her lecture\, “Landscape as a Heritage: The Story of Landscape in the Czech Republic\,” Flekalová will provide a brief introduction of Mendel University in Brno and discuss the story of the Czech landscape\, a landscape that matters to its people. She will also share her research and methods used to record and protect historical and heritage landscapes\, and the practical consequences of this heritage today. \nFlekalová is a visiting scholar at the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. She graduated with a degree in landscape architecture and finished her PhD in ecology and environmental protection. Her teaching and research focus is on landscape planning\, sustainable development\, recreation in landscape\, historical and designed landscapes\, and public participation in the landscape planning process. Since 2011\, Flekalová has also been a coordinator of a CEEPUS network\, “Landscape Management: Sustainable Land Use Perspectives in the Central European Region\,” an exchange program for students and teachers among middle and eastern European universities.
