SUMMARY:Yves Monnier: Off Season Reception
DESCRIPTION:Reception\nMonday\, October 2\, 2023\n5–6:30 p.m.\nClark and Laura Boyce Gallery\n104 Julian T.  White Hall \nThe exhibition “Off Season” features selected photographs by multimedia artist and researcher Yves Monnier who is based in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region\, in Southeastern France. For Monnier\, photography is a “process of masking.” He explains\, “You can focus on one part of reality with an image” but through accumulation\, something more massive comes into view—even if “imperfect and fragile.” His art broadly documents life in the Anthropocene\, our current era marked by significant human impact. \nMonnier is one of several scholars working on a collaborative project called “Still on the Map!” Coming from diverse backgrounds in urban studies\, environmental anthropology\, literature\, and art\, the interdisciplinary research is both poetic and scientific. The “Still on the Map!” team is composed of Jennifer Buyck: Architect and Doctor of Aesthetics\, Isabelle Krzywkowski: Professor of General and Comparative Literature\, Jean-Paul Thibaud: Sociologist and Doctor of Urban Planning and Development\, Nicolas Tixier: Architect DPLG and Doctor\, Didier Tallagrand: Visual Artist\, Jean-Michel Roux\, Matthieu Duperrex: Doctor of Visual Arts and Multimedia Author\, Germain Meulemans: Anthropologist and Yves Monnier: Visual Artist and represents a collaboration born within the University-Grenoble-Alpes in partnership with UMR Pacte\, UMR Litt&Arts\, UMR AAU-Cresson\, Ensa Grenoble\, Ensa Marseille\, and LSU. \nYves Monnier (b.1983) is a visual artist who lives and works in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region\, France. He has a varied multimedia artistic practice consisting of photographs\, serigraphs\, stencils\, installations\, videos\, correspondences\, events and projects that adopt protocols. He entered the École Supérieure d’Art de Grenoble in 2003\, obtaining his Diplôme National d’Arts Plastiques in June 2006\, then lived in Vilnius and studied at the Fine Art Academy of Vilnius until December 2006. Following this he obtained his Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique with honours at the École Supérieure d’Art de Grenoble in June 2008. He was a member of the first collective of the Ateliers des horizons from 2017 to 2018\, at the Magasin\, CNAC\, Grenoble. Since 2020\, the artist has been working in partnership with researchers from the CNRS\, the CRESSON Laboratory\, the PACTE Laboratory and Grenoble Alpes University in Grenoble. \nThis exhibition is organized by LSU College of Art & Design in conjunction with the Paula G. Manship Endowed Lecture Series. Yves Monnier will deliver a public lecture in 103 Julian T. White Hall Monday\, October 2\, 2023 at 4 p.m. and work with School of Art and School of Architecture students during his visit to LSU. \n
