Anna Calluori Holcombe
MFA 1977, Ceramics
Art
Anna Calluori Holcombe received an MFA in ceramics from the LSU School of Art in 1977. She is currently a professor of ceramics at the School of Art & Art History at the University of Florida.
Anna was one of the early groups of students in the fledgling LSU MFA ceramics program. Her major professor, Joe Bova, became her mentor, a friendship that continues to this day. They have served on professional boards and committees and have exhibited and worked together. Bova encouraged and guided Anna in her Fulbright application. He had recently had been awarded a Fulbright to teach in Ireland and spoke highly of the experience.
Anna said her degree has been the cornerstone of her career successes, the Fulbright being a major one. She had a remarkable fall term as a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in the Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi (College of Fine Arts) at Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey. Anna said, “My colleagues and students there treated me with great hospitality and respect. The country is remarkable in its long history as a major crossroads of the world. The culture is rich with tradition, yet very much a part of contemporary society. I was fortunate to have this experience of living and working in Turkey.”
