LSU School of Art’s biennial “cup show,” 8 Fluid Ounces, will be on view, with works for sale, from February 4 through March 10, 2024. The exhibition typically features over 100 ceramic cups and vessels by over thirty artists invited from across the country.
Artist Adero Willard will serve as juror for this year’s exhibition. Each juror, through their artist selection and vision, brings a unique perspective to this biennial project—Adero Willard’s iteration of the exhibition is entitled 8 Fluid Ounces: Mud and Moonlight Fusion. According to Willard, “Mud, comprised of elements from the earth and mingled with water, symbolizes a grounding that can root us to history and/or our ancestors. Moonlight, our guiding light in the darkness, represents illumination, magic, and spirituality.” Willard uses the term ‘fusion’ to “encapsulate the convergence of elements, including earth, fire, water, spirituality, magic, or alchemy, signifying a space where the tangible and intangible coexist and intermingle, allowing transition between the conceptual and the material.” Willard curation focuses on objects that encourage contemplation and exploration of the tangible and the ethereal. 8 Fluid Ounces: Mud and Moonlight Fusion aims to delve into interpretations of “cup” as a vessel reflecting on the material, ceremony, ancestry, spirituality, and/or identity related to this essential form.
This exhibition is organized in conjunction with LSU School of Art Ceramic Artist Student Association (CASA), who selected Willard as juror and visiting artist. All exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public. Sales support both the artists and Glassell Gallery’s exhibitions and programming.
