Book Talk with Lake Douglas
March 24, 2015 @ 5:30 am - 7:00 pm
Please join Hill Memorial Library on Tuesday, March 24, from 5:30–7 p.m. for a talk and reception with Dr. Lake Douglas to celebrate his new book, Steward of the Land: Selected Writings of 19th-Century Horticulturist Thomas Affleck (LSU Press, Hill Series, 2014).
Lake Douglas is associate dean of research & development at the LSU College of Art & Design and associate professor in the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. He is also the author of Public Spaces, Private Gardens: A History of Designed Landscapes in New Orleans (LSU Press, 2011).
The talk will be followed by a reception. Hill Memorial Library will also feature a small, temporary display of materials from the Thomas Affleck papers, curated by Tara Lever, curator of manuscripts. Tara wrote an introductory piece for Douglas’s book, which is part of the Hill Series at LSU Press. Materials from the Affleck papers were featured in Hill Memorial Library’s fall exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, a collaboration with the LSU AgCenter and College of Agriculture.
Books will be available for purchase at a 20 percent discount at the event through Barnes & Noble.
