Instructor and Alumnus Jonathan Mayers’ work will be featured in a duel exhibition with Gabrielle Savoy entitled  Du Bassin Sauvage. Having created with passion by Cajuns from both sides of the Atchafalaya Basin, paintings and mixed media works in Du Bassin Sauvage feature figures and creatures that exist in symbolic narratives of emotionally charged experiences that remain beautifully authentic. Themes of reclamation and culture from south Louisiana run concurrently through this two-person exhibit of Louisiana artists.

Du Bassin Sauvage will be showing at Cite des Arts in Lafayette, Louisiana, April 6–30. A reception will be held on April 11 from 6–9 p.m. during Lafayette’s monthly Downtown Artwalk. The exhibit will also be up during Festival International. Mayers will also have a project titled Découvrez. Écoutez. Créez. that will be a part of this exhibit.

This inaugural series invites you to fully experience a comprehensive collection of 3 masterful Louisiana Musicians. Each one- their own story, their own sound, their own love of the Louisiana roots. Each musician is painted on a Magic: The Gathering™ trading card, which is inspired by some of my fondest memories growing up playing Magic . . .

Here’s how to Discover, Listen, Create:

• At each art display, you’ll find a headset. Place them on your head (and over your ears) and immerse yourself in the physical art work and music that now surround you. Go ahead- dance a little- you know you want to . . .
• After you’ve had plenty of time to DISCOVER and LISTEN to your Louisiana musician, CREATE a response by using the acrylic markers provided next to the display.
• Draw and write (en français ou en anglais) over anything already on the panel (and anywhere you want!). You’ll be creating one of today’s most powerful and popular forms of art – graffiti.
• Don’t worry about ‘”ruining” someone else’s contribution. The foundation of graffiti lies in the artist (you) to unforgivingly paint on top of each other’s tags and pieces . . .
• You’ll be helping to create the first public collaborative experience of its kind – a physical manifestation of response history created by the collaboration of every single visitor – a melting pot of thoughts, interests, ideas, and personalities.

Voici comment tu peux Découvir, Écouter, Créer:

• À chaque kiosque, tu trouveras un casque d’écoute. Mets le casque et laisse-toi t’immerger dans le tableau et la musique qui t’entourent.  Vas-y, danse un ‘tit brin, tu sais que tu veux . . .
• Quand tu auras passé assez de temps pour DÉCOUVRIR et ÉCOUTER ton musicien louisianais, tu peux CRÉER une réponse en te servant d’un des feutres mis à disposition à côté du kiosque.
• Dessine et écris (en français ou en anglais) où que tu veux sur le panneau (et même dessus ce qui est déjà là !) Tu participeras à la création d’une des formes artistiques les plus puissantes et populaires de notre temps – le graffiti.
• Ne te tracasse pas, tu ne vas pas gâcher la contribution de quelqu’un d’autre. La fondation de graffiti repose sur le principe que l’artiste (toi) peut peinturer sans merci dessus les tags et les oeuvres des autres . . .
• Tu aideras à la création de la première collaboration expérientielle publique de son genre – une manifestation physique d’histoire de réponse créée par la collaboration de chaque visiteur – un mélange de pensées, intérêts, idées, et personnalités.
