“Design and the More-Than-Human,” Erin Moore
April 4, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Erin Moore, FLOAT architectural research and design, will give a lecture titled “Design and the More-Than-Human” to the College of Art & Design on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. in 103 Design Building Auditorium.
Moore’s recent work explores the architectural space of fossil fuel consumption, multi-species design, and climate justice. She uses her architecture practice FLOAT architectural research and design as a testing ground for designing explicit relationships with the ecological context of buildings. Moore’s Pipeline Portals project is three pavilions to challenge the expropriation of land for gas pipeline construction and was a finalist in the 2020 global Architizer A+Awards in the Architecture + Landscape category. Other recent work includes Topography: Remapping the Space of Fossil Fuel Transportation, recently installed at Palazzo Mora in Venice, Italy during La Biennale di Venezia and the Outside House, winner of the 2017 Building Voices award for environmental, social, and economic sustainability and indigenous culture. In this talk, Moore will share this and other work in the context of design for the more-than-human. Moore is a professor in the Department of Architecture and in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon.
