Luis Longhi, “Architect as the Nature of Nature”
February 20, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Luis Longhi, principal of Longhi Architects and professor at UPC Lima, Peru, will present a lecture titled, “Architect as the Nature of Nature.” This LSU School of Architecture lecture is sponsored by Coleman Partners Architects and will take place at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, in the LSU Design Building Auditorium (room 103).
Longhi’s American experience began when he became the only student at the University of Pennsylvania to carry out studies toward two master’s degrees simultaneously, graduating in 1984, with a Master of Architecture and Master of Fine Arts with a major in sculpture, both with honors. His more than 30 years of architectural experience began with him working for BV Doshi in Amhedabad, India, continuing with his professional practice in U.S. offices, including Adele Naude Santos Architects, David Slovic Architecture and Urban Design, Bower Lewis & Thrower Architects in Philadelphia, Gruen Associates in Los Angeles, and Farrington Design Group in Atlanta. In 1991, while working at Gruen Associates, he studied computer animation for architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, adopting since the computer as the main tool for conceptual design. In 1994, Longhi returned to his native Peru, where he founded Longhi Architects as a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in architecture, planning, interiors, and landscape design. In 2010, Longhi won the Gold Medal for Architecture, awarded by the Peruvian Institute of Architects.
