Skate. by Kyle Zedaker explores the culture of skateboarding and captures the essence of particular skateboarders through portraiture. Zedaker spent significant time with a group of local skateboarders in order to get to know them and better understand how skateboarding has impacted their lives. The media and film industry has often pigeonholed skate culture as a grungy, sweaty, rebellious activity. After spending time with these particular skaters, Zedaker learned that the sport is about falling, getting back up, and trying again until you get it right. The selected digital photographic prints reveal both the artistry and the persistence of the sport.

Kyle Zedaker is a senior in the School of Art, majoring in photography.
