Sarah Barone is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working across web, installation, and performance. She holds a BA in Psychology and Visual Media from the University of Colorado Denver (CO) and an MFA in Studio Arts, specializing in Intermedia: Electronic Arts, Video, and Performance, from Concordia University (QC). With over a ten years of experience in digital graphics and web design, she has shaped her artistic practice in parallel with the technologies she engages.
With a diverse creative background, she interweaves her career as a designer with her training as a contemporary dancer, applying design’s critical research methodologies to embodied expressions, always dreaming up spatial/ized outcomes and investigations. By analyzing and cataloging, she raises questions about the levels of imposition or dialogue that these spaces provoke in the body and space through the lens of post-humanist feminist phenomenologies, relational art, and speculative design.
Sarah’s current research explores ways to amplify ecological spaces of distress using digital storytelling, electroacoustics (field recordings and sound), chorographic systems, and 3D environments. Her research-creations tell the story of our water systems; investigating the ways that design tools can be used as a canvas to communicate the vulnerable relationship between human and natural bodies.
