Johanna Warwick is an associate professor of photography at LSU. She received her BFA from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, and her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Throughout Johanna’s research she has photographed a variety of different subject matter in an attempt to reconcile with the things in our world that will—ultimately or already—have disappeared: our history, environment, and loved ones. While the subject matter changes, the underlining theme is an examination and questioning of loss (both past, present, and future). Warwick chooses photography as a tool to represent her interests as she can use it to construct new visual relationships, both conceptually and physically. She strives for her photographs to invoke questioning, contemplation, and curiosity within others.
Warwick is the recipient of several grants, including a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship. She has exhibited in Canada and across the United States, most recently with a solo exhibition, Between the Ground & Sky, at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her project, Monuments to Strangers, was included in Fresh, an exhibition of new photographers at the Klompching Gallery in New York.
