Jun Zhou, ASLA, is an award-winning landscape architect, urban designer, educator, and founder and design principal of ZAP Associates, an international design practice with offices in Denver and Shanghai. His work connects landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, and ecology. His distinctive strength lies in translating complex ecological systems, urban conditions, and cultural narratives into clear spatial ideas—and carrying those ideas from research and conceptual vision through technical development and built implementation.
Rather than treating research as separate from design, Zhou uses it as a creative generator of form, experience, and environmental performance. His projects transform degraded, post-industrial, and rapidly urbanizing sites into resilient public landscapes that bring together ecological performance, cultural identity, and human experience. Under his design leadership, ZAP Associates has earned sustained recognition from ASLA at both regional and national levels, including multiple ASLA Colorado design awards and a 2025 ASLA Professional Honor Award in Research.
Zhou brings the same connection between inquiry and implementation into teaching. He encourages students to move confidently between site analysis, spatial thinking, visual communication, technical development, and implementation. He earned his Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and previously practiced with OLIN and Design Workshop, where he served as Design Director.
