LSU Art Exhibitions Ask, “Why LSU?”

LSU School of Art is pleased to present “Why LSU: From an Artist’s Point of View,” two concurrent exhibitions featuring graduate and undergraduate students. The shows will be held in two gallery locations on the LSU campus.

“Why LSU: From an Artist’s Point of View” LSU MFA graduate student exhibition will be on display from September 20 through October 11 in the Union Art Gallery in the LSU Student Union, featuring work of current MFA students in the School of Art. From across the world, these students have decided to live and study in Louisiana.

“Why LSU: From an Artist’s Point of View” undergraduate student exhibition will be on display from September 19 through October 7 in the Clark and Laura Boyce Gallery located in the LSU Design Building. These exhibitions introduce LSU School of Art’s diverse students and their work. Included are works representative of all the School of Art’s areas of focus: ceramics, digital art, graphic design, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

The graduate student exhibition is on view at the Union Gallery from September 20 – October 11, 2022, open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The undergraduate exhibition is on view in the Boyce Gallery located in the Design Building September 19 – October 7, 2022, open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

“As an artist it is important to build community,” Moseley said. “Place is foundational to community and LSU is the place where many young artists begin building their artistic community. This exhibition features undergraduate work. Each artist was asked not only to share their work, but also why they chose LSU and how this place has impacted them.

I was initially inspired to curate this exhibition to give undergraduate art students opportunities to grow skills and confidence in exhibiting their work. But sharing work is also about building community. In the statements, students shared a sense of belonging, a sense of community, and a sense of purpose they have found through making art at LSU. These statements reminded me just how much my own journey was shaped by my LSU community. I hope this show inspires others and deepens connections for the artists in community here at LSU.”
