Interior Design

Suzan Tillotson, president and founder of Tillotson Design Associates, received a Bachelor of Interior Design from LSU in 1981. She founded TDA in 2004 with 20-plus years of lighting design experience. She has won numerous awards for her work and has been featured in many national and international publications. She is a member of IALD Board of Directors and has been the IALD NY area regional coordinator since 2008. She has been an IES member for 30 years and was president of the Southwest Louisiana section. She has also served as an awards judge for the New York IES Lumens and the IALD.

Suzan has taught the New York IES introductory lighting course, led numerous lighting design and rendering workshops, and has guest lectured on lighting design at LSU, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Cornell University, and McGill University. She has also taught lighting to graduate-level architecture students at Princeton University.

After graduating from LSU, Suzan worked for Levy-Kramer Associates, a Baton Rouge engineering firm, where she was head of the lighting department. Upon relocating to New York City in 1986, Suzan acquired additional experience at Flack + Kurtz Engineers and H. M. Brandston and Partners before joining Jerry Kugler and later forming Kugler Tillotson Associates. She had directed all phases of design for a wide variety of award-winning domestic and international projects.

Suzan was the keynote speaker at the 2012 LSU College of Art & Design Commencement Ceremony and is the recipient of a LSU Distinguished Alumni Award. Read more about Suzan in this Alumni Spotlight.
