The LSU School of Architecture Mid City Studio, the Walls Project, and Letterman’s Blue Print & Supply have partnered to design and construct a rotating, modular canvas system—a wall installation—on the north and possibly east facades of Letterman’s Government Street location in Mid City Baton Rouge. The project will consist of permanent vertical structural supports and a series of removable art panels which will serve as a contextual, rotating, community exhibit. The design will not only identify Letterman’s but allow the company to serve as a steward and voice for the surrounding community. LSU students enrolled in the fall 2014 Mid City Studio are participating in the design and construction of the wall as well as curating and installing the first exhibit with the help and expertise of the Walls Project and other local partners.
Join the fall 2014 Mid City Studio on Friday, October 10, from 5–8 p.m., in front of Letterman’s for a community event and fundraiser to gather ideas, feedback, and support for the community art wall project. Mid City Studio will also launch their social media campaign to celebrate the identity and character of Mid City. Please use #iammidcity to share the news!
The studio will unveil the built wall at Letterman’s during White Light Night on Friday, November 21, 2014.
