Matthew Carter, “Bruce Rogers’ Centaur Type”
November 15, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Internationally renowned British type designer Matthew Carter will present a Paula G. Manship lecture at the LSU College of Art & Design at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in the LSU Design Building Auditorium (room 103). A reception will follow at Hill Memorial Library, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in conjunction with the Letterform Characters exhibition.
A 2005 New Yorker profile described Carter as “the most widely read man in the world,” considering the amount of text set in his commonly used fonts. His four-decade-long career has bridged physical type, phototypesetting, and digital font design as well as the design of custom lettering. Carter’s most used fonts are Verdana, Georgia, and Tahoma. His other type designs include Bell Centennial, Miller, and Galliard.
