WICS Game Jam!
November 6, 2015 - November 8, 2015
The Women in Computer Science (WICS) Game Jam will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 6, and end at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015, in the LSU Digital Media Center.
Teams have 48 hours to create a video game, and like most game jams, this means staying overnight to finish the game. Game jams are intense, exciting, and a ton of fun! Any student can participate. You don’t need to have a team already in place. The jam is also a great way to get quick portfolio building experience.
Create Video Games
You can create any kind of game you want. A theme will be announced the day of the event to provide inspiration. WICS wants to help students earn game development, team dynamic, and project experience through this event. Participants do not need game development experience, but experience in coding, art, or music is helpful. WICS recommends the use GameMaker for students who don’t already have experience or relevant skills. There will also be tutorials on fast game development provided at the event.
Game Jam is hosted by Women in Computer Science at LSU, but college and high school students of any age and gender may participate.
Volunteer for the Jam
WICS needs volunteers to help during the 48 hours of the jam. If you are experienced in programming and/or game development, volunteer to help students create games during the jam. Participants will most likely be using Unity 3D and GameMaker during the jam. WICS also needs volunteers for more general tasks such as setting up, greeting and signing in attendees, and other miscellaneous activities. Volunteers are encouraged to take shifts of a few hours or more, but even one hour shifts are helpful.
Register as a volunteer at wicsgamejam.com. Select volunteer tutoring if you want to help students create games. Select volunteer general to provide general help during the jam.
