Word Stuff by Chelsea Ramirez & Jamie Kutner
July 14, 2014 - July 31, 2014

The Firehouse Gallery at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge presents the exhibition Word Stuff by artists Chelsea Ramirez and Jamie Kutner. The exhibition is on view Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 31, 2014. An opening reception will be held at the Firehouse Gallery on Friday, July 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. The gallery is free and open to the public during normal business hours.
Word Stuff features mixed-media works, including drawings, prints, sculptures, and wall installations. The artists connect material processes with conceptual inquiry, highlighting expressions of origin, location, and identity within an object-oriented culture. Designed text and found objects create familiar points of reference throughout the gallery.
“We are constantly on the lookout for young and talented artists and visual communicators,” said Eric Holowacz, executive director of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. “This show continues our mission of fostering image-makers, connecting creative people with new audiences, and providing a platform for ideas and new art.”
Ramirez and Kutner, both interdisciplinary artists, are currently MFA candidates at the LSU School of Art. Ramirez is a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, native who has recently exhibited at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Alabama. Kutner, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, has recently shown at the Espai Barra de Ferro in Barcelona, Spain; the University of Colorado at Boulder; and other national and international venues.
