Eye on a Tiger: Jamie Yousten
Jamie Yousten graduated from the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture in May 2014. She majored in landscape architecture and minored in photography. The summer before her fifth year, she interned at Peter Walker and Partners Landscape Architecture Firm after spending the 2013 spring semester interning at the California State Parks Southern Service Center. These opportunities offered her a plethora of knowledge regarding the business, as well as the opportunity to work with many fantastic professionals on a variety of projects around the country.
Her research and professional interests focus on creating functional and beautiful public spaces by utilizing sites previously forgotten or less desirable, in particular with an emphasis on the confluence of brown field and contaminated site remediation and the interaction between the delicate natural ecosystems and the surrounding communities. Her volunteer work on coastal restoration efforts, including Marsh Madness, through both the LSU Honors College and other volunteer groups has also fostered an interest in sensitive habitat restoration and redesign in order to promote human education and minimize adverse interaction. Her senior thesis project examined the mining industry and the byproducts created and stored in the surrounding landscape, highlighting their effects on the surrounding ecosystems and communities in order to design and establish a landscape to treat and adapt to these materials as they are created.
