Chris Theis, a professor in the LSU School of Architecture, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor for 2009‐2010 by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA).

Theis was one of four educators recognized this year by the ACSA for sustained creative achievement in the advancement of architectural education through teaching, design, scholarship, research, or service.

“This is an honor not only for Chris but for the LSU School of Architecture,” said Jori Erdman, director of the School of Architecture. “It is a positive reflection of the caliber of our faculty and on the College of Art and Design’s ongoing commitment to carrying out LSU’s Flagship Agenda.”

Theis has been a professor in the School of Architecture since 1988, and served as director from 1988‐1994. He is a LEED‐accredited professional with years of experience in the private sector as well as in academia. As an educator, he has focused his attention on sustainable design. He introduced and coordinated sustainable design as a requirement in fifth‐year comprehensive design studios, and has presented numerous guest lectures on sustainable design and sustainability. Since 2001, he has taught a course on issues in sustainability.

Theis has also been recognized with numerous awards. Among the most recent was the University Tiger Athletic Foundation President’s Award in 2009, which recognizes faculty for extraordinary classroom teaching as demonstrated by an impact on and involvement with students.
