Associate Professor Ed Smith’s Paintings Profiled in Garden & Gun Magazine
Paintings by Ed Smith, associate professor of painting & drawing at the LSU School of Art, were profiled in Garden & Gun magazine.
A lifestyles magazine based in Charleston, South Carolina, Garden & Gun covers art, architecture, gardening, music, and the sporting life, among other topics.
In the piece, author Mike Grudowsky calls the birds in Smith’s paintings “brilliantly plumed” and says they look ill at ease, huddled together with eyes on high alert. “Something is rotten in the peaceable kingdom,” Grudowsky says.
Leslie-Claire Spillman, director of New Orleans’ Soren Christensen Gallery, which represents Smith, said there is a growing buzz around his work. “His themes definitely resonate down here.”
Garden & Gun is the winner of a National Magazine Award in General Excellence by the American Society of Magazine Editors in New York and was named to Advertising Age’s 2011 Magazine A-List.
