CxC Presents Responding to and Assessing the Writing of ESL Students
January 22, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Faculty, instructors, and graduate assistants are invited to attend a panel discussion on “Responding to and Assessing the Writing of English as a Second Language (ESL) Students,” sponsored by the Communications across the Curriculum program. The seminar will be held in the LSU Design Building Commons, room 104, on Thursday, January 22, 2015, from noon to 1 p.m.
International students who have English as a second language enrich our classrooms and studios by bringing a cross-cultural perspective to projects and assignments. However, when we begin to assess non-native students’ texts, we often feel unprepared to address the complicated concerns that emerge. Join us for a panel discussion where we will explore the following questions:
- What are the ESL proficiency levels for university students and how are they determined?
- What is the difference between acceptable adaptations versus unreasonable accommodations for assignments?
- Where do we start assessing a student’s text?
- How do we address issues of culture and identity?
Registration information for this panel will be available in January 2015.
