Land of Milk and Honey, oil on canvas, 72×72 inches, 2016

This new collection of work was completed during Smith’s sabbatical from LSU in spring 2016. Smith’s paintings are about the clash that occurs where man and nature collide. He became fascinated with the Louisiana landscape when he came to teach at LSU, and he was also inspired by the work of John James Audubon and intrigued by the intersection of wildlife and industry in South Louisiana.
