Bruce on Brazilian beach

Professor Emeritus Bruce Sharky

The Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture started Design Week over 25 years ago. The annual event was the brainchild of then Director Bruce Sharky. It is an intensive three-to-five-day design charrette on a contemporary design project brought to the school by an outside professional. The students of the school are assembled into vertical teams with representatives from each year on a team under the guidance of a faculty advisor.

The purpose is to challenge students with a design problem type that they may not wrestle with while in studios, engage them with a practitioner, and build on the special culture of community within the program.

The goal of this effort is to provide long-term support for Design Week by starting the Design Week Fund in order to continue this tradition in perpetuity and honor one of Bruce’s meaningful contributions to the school.

The LSU Foundation will work with Mr. Stefan Pharis to manage funds contributed through this effort. He will also represent donors for any needed revision to the purpose of the fund.
