Art in Florence

May 18-June 20, 2026
Program director: Leslie Koptcho
Art in Florence offers an exceptional opportunity to enhance your global, intellectual, and creative vision by studying art and creative writing while living independently in the fabulous city of Florence, Italy.
Professor Leslie Koptcho teaches discipline-specific concepts and techniques in printmaking, drawing, bookmaking, and poetry. Instruction will emphasize art and writing as a means of illuminating personal experiences of an exotic place and culture, and as a vehicle for expressing those experiences with words and images. Art history professor Ludovico Geymonat leads lectures on the history of Italian medieval art and architecture.
Classes will meet Monday through Thursday at the acclaimed Santa Reparata International School of Art, which is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence. Daily outings to museums, cultural sites, and walking tours will supplement instruction and enhance and stimulate creativity.
The month-long program also includes excursions to Assisi & Fabriano, and the medieval village San Gimignano (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and optional fieldtrips to the Chianti region of Tuscany and Portovenere.
